Love Opens The Closet Door: API LGBTQ Family Acceptance Workshop
Saturday, Nov 5, 2016, 10AM-12PM
Coastline Community College
12901 Euclid St.
Garden Grove, CA 92840
In collaboration with National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance (NQAPIA), Viet Rainbow of Orange County (VROC), Asian American Pacific Islander Program for Advancing Completion and Transfer Program (APACT) at Coastline Community College:
Join us for a workshop to hear Asian American parents share their stories and experiences of confusion, fear, love, acceptance, and celebration of their LGBTQ children.
We especially welcome allies of these communities, parents of LGBTQ kids who would like to talk with other parents who understand the unique cultural issues in our communities, LGBTQ people who want to come out to their parents, or people who are struggling with family acceptance and want to understand different ways to bring them together. If you are already out to your parents, caregivers, or other family members, bring them along!
Featuring parent speakers:
Glenn & Karen, Japanese parents of gay sons
Mama Ha, Vietnamese mother of a transgender son
* Light refreshments will be served during this event.
** Photos will not be allowed to be taken without permission to respect participants’ identities and to preserve this event as a safe space for everyone.
Family is Still Family, Love is Still Love.
